For the impressive glass façade of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, we produced and custom-finished bespoke printed fabric screens. These screens add colour to the entrance of the building while also providing a practical solution: they reduce the glare caused by the low afternoon sun, ensuring that visitors and staff can enter the museum without discomfort.
Together with De Kruijff Projectzonwering from Amsterdam, we developed an ingenious yet straightforward solution. The fabric screens are installed tightly and seamlessly within the façade using a rail system combined with hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro). This allows them to be easily repositioned and, if required, quickly removed, for example when the glass façade needs cleaning. The aesthetic finish is completed by a stainless steel bottom bar integrated into the fabric, perfectly complementing the appearance of the façade, which was realised by façade engineering specialist Octatube.
This project demonstrates that an effective technical solution does not have to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest approach is also the most elegant, while at the same time contributing to the visual identity of one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands.
