The World Trade Center (WTC) Rotterdam is a striking building located in the heart of the city, at Beursplein. As part of the international network of World Trade Centers, it serves as an important business hub in Rotterdam. The original building dates back to the 1930s and initially functioned as the city's stock exchange.
Today, the WTC houses a wide range of facilities, including offices, meeting and conference rooms, exhibition spaces, restaurants, and shops. For the conference hall 'Rotterdam Hall', Cushman & Wakefield was looking for a suitable blackout solution. To find the right system, they enlisted our partner De Haan Westerhoff, who approached us to help develop an appropriate solution.
One of the main challenges in this project was supporting the blackout fabric. The support rollers used in this system ensure the fabric remains properly tensioned despite its weight. Since the systems were installed at a great height and span a wide area, we opted to incorporate extra safety measures. Steel cables were added inside each visible aluminum tube, firmly secured to the steel structure of the hall. In the end, we equipped the hall with twenty shading systems from our GJ - SZ Series, fitted with blackout fabrics from Serge Ferrari. All systems are powered by Becker 80Nm motors—specifically chosen for their high torque capability to accommodate the large span of 10.5 meters. The systems were installed on-site by our partner De Haan Westerhoff, enabling the entire space to be effectively darkened from now on.
